In light of this chilly time of year with its dark mornings and icy evenings, we felt it appropriate to let loose and have a little fun… We hope you enjoy this article all about bookish gift inspiration 🙂
It may be December, with Christmas just around the corner, though you don’t need to wait for the festive season to celebrate someone you care about (which includes yourself) with a book-themed gift!
In case you need inspiration, here are a few examples of times you might want to celebrate with a bookish gift:
- A birthday (or half-birthday – or even an un-birthday).
- Any special occasion (wedding, religious celebration, parallel parking without curbing your wheels, etc.).
- Embarking on a new job or business venture.
- A promotion (or leaving a terrible job).
- Buying or renting a new home.
- Passing a test (driving test, exam, interview, etc.).
- Graduating (school, college, university, etc.).
- A new addition to the family (baby, pet, bookshelf, etc.).
- Building flatpack furniture without swearing or injuring anyone.
- Making it through a tough time.
- Creating art (drawing, painting, writing, etc.).
- Trying a new hobby (crocheting, scrapbooking, baking, etc.).
- Getting out of bed when it’s cold and/or raining.
- Being unable to sleep when it’s too cold or too hot.
- Enduring a difficult night of next to no sleep because your dog wanted to go out to pee three times.
Now you’ve got some idea of the sorts of events that warrant buying yourself or a loved one a bookish gift, here are a few examples of what that book-themed gift might be:
1 – A new novel
A paperback or hardcover book with an eye-catching cover can make a wonderful gift. And, if you don’t know your loved one’s reading preferences, this could be a chance to introduce them to a genre you enjoy reading!
2 – A decorative bookmark
If you’ve landed on this article, it’s highly likely you’re the sort of angel person who refuses to dog-ear pages. So, why not encourage your loved ones to follow your lofty example, by buying them a beautifully illustrated bookmark as a gift?
3 – A book-themed vase
There are some stunning book-themed vases available that could be a lovely, unique gift for a loved one; especially if you discover a vase in the form of their all-time favourite book.
4 – Book-themed clothing
Everyone knows people who read tend to be naturally awesome. Therefore, celebrating your loved one with book-themed clothing is a fantastic way to let them know you know they’re great.
5 – A colouring book
Sometimes, reading an excellent novel can be so engaging you just can’t put it down, meaning you end up reading all night, then walk around looking zombified the next day. To inspire relaxation at the end of a hectic week, you could purchase an adult colouring book for your loved one, to give them a night off from reading.
6 – A special notebook
A fair few readers aspire to be writers, too. Why not fuel that passion (and take away their excuse for never getting around to writing that novel idea they keep going on about) by buying them a gorgeous notebook? Even if your loved one doesn’t want to write stories, they could use their lovely, new notebook for an array of other things, such as writing book reviews (which are super important!), journalling, or crafting their very own enemies’ list.
7 – A homemade reading gift set
By this point in human evolution, we should all be aware of how vital it is, for both mental and physical health, to take a well-deserved break from time to time. Therefore, crafting a reading gift set tailored to your loved one’s interests and preferences would undoubtedly be appreciated! Examples of items to include in your homemade reading gift set are:
- A mug – complete with a teabag, hot chocolate, or coffee sachet, depending on their individual tastes.
- A selection of sweet treats – chocolate, popcorn, dried fruit (basically, whatever they like and can eat).
- A candle – to set the mood (maybe opt for one of those rechargeable ones if they have pets and/or children).
- A cosy blanket – which keeps them comfortable while they delve into the latest book you’ve recommended to them (recommendation inspiration is available here…*wink, wink*).
As you can see, there are so many wonderful book-themed gift ideas if you’re wanting to get something special for a loved one (or yourself) for any reason. We recommend buying directly from creators, where possible – so, if you create bookish gifts through your own small business, please let our readers know in the comments 🙂
Thanks for reading!
